A History of the Land |
The woodlot where Scotsburn Tree Farm is located is in Scotsburn Pictou county Nova Scotia. The Town of Pictou, located on the beautiful Northumberland Shore of Nova Scotia, Is renowned as the "Birthplace of New Scotland", as it was here that the first Scottish immigrants landed in 1773. Scotsburn is a small friendly village located on Route 256 between West Branch and Lyons Brook. The main industries are farming, the Scotsburn dairy, and the Wood Mill.
The property is located roughly 1km west of the village of Scotsburn opposite the Heathbell Road. The woodlot has a lot of unique features in its location. The woodlot sits Just below where the Stonehame Chalets overlook the North Shore very close to the two local churches and not far from a large Sheep Farm. The property has been in the family name for three generations. The land was originally owned by my Grand Parents Warren and Christena Rae who had a home on the property. The home has since been sold with the exception of the surrounding land.
The property was gifted to me by my Father in 1998 a portion of the property was cut roughly 10 years ago , where the area was cut it was recognized that balsam fir trees were growing in naturally and in great form. This new growth of trees was what has started the idea that has evolved into The Scotsburn Tree Farm.
